Techie Woes

Released on 2013, February, the lovely beauty was finally available in the market. Super amoled plus capacitive touchscreen, 4.3 inches and sleek as they come. 8GB internal storage and 1GB RAM along with 1.2GHz processor. It had an 8 MP primary camera with LED flash and 2MP secondary camera. To top it all of, it came with Android OS 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

I need to take a deep breath before I go on, this was just but a tip of the ice berg description of my now vegetative Samsung SII plus phone. I remember the day I bought it like it was yesterday. I had been hunting down stores all over Nairobi for this tech beauty. From Parklands third avenue to Kimathi street

The prices were crazy and it had been out of stock in most shops. I desperately wanted to get over it but the obsession was so strong. Even the Galaxy S4 mini wouldn't change my resolve.

Lucky for me I got it at a shop in Ambassadeur building. Was there with my dear boyfriend Mark and his sister. After the purchase I was still in a state of euphoria and it hadn't really hit me that I was its new proud owner.

Day two was filled with exploring all I could on the amazing phone. Then came the fateful day three, my heart breaks a little every time I recall that dreadful Saturday.  Even now I still keep sighing deeply when I type the events that followed.

I had gone to visit Mark at his place and he had been talking about how he likes me when I get all domestic. So I decided to whip up some tasty pastries that afternoon. Between 2pm and 6pm I slaved tirelessly in the kitchen having underestimated the art of cooking.

The whole time my new found love , the S2 plus, was on the kitchen shelf. After I was done cooking, I decided to give my aching heels a water bath. That is when the devilish luck started to roll out on me. I heat up some water and had soaked my feet in warm water at the time.

Then I remembered the phone was still in the kitchen, oops , I thought to myself I should bring it to the living room incase Mark calls and needs to speak to me.

At that point right there things went south, first of all Mark did not call as anticipated. He had this irritation whenever I didn't pick his calls and that night I wanted to avoid the scolding.

Silly me I accidentally let the phone slip from my laps and right into the basin of water. And now long story short my dear 3 day old phone is at Fone Xpress waiting for a new motherboard. Needless to say water damage is not covered under warranty and the not so warm receptionist made a clear emphasis on 50-50 survival chance it has.

I had been to other service centres before this and the stress accumulated from the lack of spare parts to downright rude receptionist was quite a load full.

So fone xpress will be calling soon with the diagnosis and of course a handsome quotation. Now my prevalent declaration of myself as an optimist has surely been put to the test. I have already invested so much in buying this gadget, and here I am being told the chances are 50-50…. Is the glass half empty or half full? Do I just forget about it and save for another or do I commit myself to a new motherboard and take my chances? The biggest dilemma for me at the moment. Anyone with any brilliant risk assessment sentiments? Techies I call upon thee hehe.

Well as for the Christians encouraging me not to be too attached to worldly possessions , I get where you are coming from….but….

The hole in my wallet just makes me want to scream, and I know if my mum was to read this she would be like "think about the Kenyans who recently escaped the skirmishes in South Sudan, they left with nothing."

But well in as much as I empathize with them, I still feel a dull ache in my chest whenever I see my workmate who has a similar phone. He is constantly holding it and for the first time in a really long time, I find myself coveting.

I have blamed myself countless number of times but that only makes things worse. I guess the biggest lesson for me  was the cliché sentence we have heard at some point or the other, "actions have consequences."

So it is now watch and wait period as I will my new replacement the Huwawei Ideos(with a cracked screen) to ring and hear from fone  xpress. And try real hard not to cast jealous glances at my workmate as he swipes away on my, sorry , his phone. *sigh*

Morning Madness

As I sit on my computer today morning at work, I doubt I am anywhere near employee of the year award. For all the sisters out there you know it is the 15 seconds of fame in the high pressured corporate environment. I am 'getting fired up for the day' catching up on celebrity news. Don't judge me, we are different you know hehe.

Back to the contents of my computer screen I am sighing at a picture of Fally Ipupa, number 6 on Top Ten Richest African Musicians. Hmmmm…. That gorgeous intense glare on that particular picture made me gag, not too proud but damn what's a girl to do? Let me share that particular picture, maybe then you will see where I'm coming from.

Now that I think about it may be sharing this picture was not one of my wisest ideas… first things first it is very, very distracting. But oh well, I shall overcome. Oh and if my boyfriend reads this, honey we are good, I'm just appreciating God's handy works!  Now that I am on the topic of rich African men I can't help but wonder, does a man being wealthy make him more alluring to girls? And if so , why? Now that is a story for another day. So gentlemen you can stop rolling your eyes at me please.
Anyway, back to the events of the day, currently at work things haven't picked up so still have a lot of free time as it is. With the internet connection taking it's sweet time to be up and running I'm typing this article away.

My main interest with the internet today is Brighter Monday whereby I am set to apply for a couple of jobs. Now before you send the well wishes, I am actually applying for them on behalf of my boyfriend, Mark. Yes I did just say that and to my delight , today on my way to work, I stumbled into a friend and guess what she does the same thing! Shout out to all the ladies holding it down for their men! We should form a club or something hehe. Talk about elaborate use of company resources!

Well that aside, I have realized I am falling back into my old habits and let's just say I am not too proud. Well let me come out with it. I  have gone back to reading romance novels and well now I just can't seem to stop. Blame it on my hormones but in as much as I know its all fantasy I just can't help it. Now for you giving that mischievous look, I know what you’re thinking and my defense is I am actually interested in the love story. As for the generous authors that throw in a steamy scene or two in the books, readers that is just a by the way.

Well the internet has finally caught on so toddles got to go and face my very busy day ahead! ;-)

Out with the old!

Happy New Year 2014! My dear beloved readers, I am happy to say that I am still alive and well and God has blessed me with yet another year. I hope you are all doing great. I am proud to say that this year I decided to write me up New Year resolutions after going without a set in 2013.
I know that they won’t exactly be easy to follow but hey I will try real hard and by the end of the year I will let you know how well I did. One of them is to blog weekly and increase the social media presence for this blog. That part, I will need your help in case I start slacking! I am excited for what this New Year holds and I have a feeling it will be a year of many firsts.
Well, I am happy to report that ushering in the New Year was truly special for me. As a first born and a daughter to a very strict dad, I have always spent New Year’s Eve counting down from the television. This time around I was set to instead spend it with my friends and after endless persuasion and breaking the rules a little, i made it happen. And though I got a bit of a lecture about the need to follow instructions, I had a blast and believe me it was all worth it.
So, my main message for you as we go into 2014 is to do away with the old and embrace new things. I for one can attest that getting out of the various comfort zones we put ourselves in can be exciting. I can bet 100% that 2013 was not all rainbows and butterflies and we had a share of the rough times. And just in case you are sitting down reminiscing about the wrongs, I would like to suggest you try doing things differently.
Personally, I’m a dreamer and if dreaming was a course in campus I know I would be both the class rep and top student. I have always wanted to witness this…
For those who are clueless (no judgment) it is the New Year’s firework display in Sydney, Australia over Harbor Bridge and Opera House. As you can see it is truly spectacular.
But this year, I have shifted my goal post and changed the destination to Downtown Dubai and now want to see the Burj Khalifa fireworks (the tallest building in the world) standing around 828 meters high. As I write the name I can see auto correct on Microsoft underlining it to indicate a spelling mistake. Quick suggestion to Bill Gates and Co. don’t you think it’s about time you recognized the Arab Money achievements? Just saying!
And indeed it is worth the recognition as Dubai New Year’s Eve Gala surpassed global New Year’s Eve celebrations with a record 1.7 million visitor turnout, as per official estimates. The event was also telecast via live satellite feed to over 1,000 global television channels, and live streamed to reach over 2 billion people. A sneak peak is what the headlining images above show.
So as I end this blog post, I will sum it up by saying it is time to change those goal posts in all aspects of your life and embrace new ways and new practices. Out with the old and in with the new, at least that way when that time of reminiscing about 2014 comes as we go into 2015 you will have different tales to recap and not the same old, same old.
