Out with the old!

Happy New Year 2014! My dear beloved readers, I am happy to say that I am still alive and well and God has blessed me with yet another year. I hope you are all doing great. I am proud to say that this year I decided to write me up New Year resolutions after going without a set in 2013.
I know that they won’t exactly be easy to follow but hey I will try real hard and by the end of the year I will let you know how well I did. One of them is to blog weekly and increase the social media presence for this blog. That part, I will need your help in case I start slacking! I am excited for what this New Year holds and I have a feeling it will be a year of many firsts.
Well, I am happy to report that ushering in the New Year was truly special for me. As a first born and a daughter to a very strict dad, I have always spent New Year’s Eve counting down from the television. This time around I was set to instead spend it with my friends and after endless persuasion and breaking the rules a little, i made it happen. And though I got a bit of a lecture about the need to follow instructions, I had a blast and believe me it was all worth it.
So, my main message for you as we go into 2014 is to do away with the old and embrace new things. I for one can attest that getting out of the various comfort zones we put ourselves in can be exciting. I can bet 100% that 2013 was not all rainbows and butterflies and we had a share of the rough times. And just in case you are sitting down reminiscing about the wrongs, I would like to suggest you try doing things differently.
Personally, I’m a dreamer and if dreaming was a course in campus I know I would be both the class rep and top student. I have always wanted to witness this…
For those who are clueless (no judgment) it is the New Year’s firework display in Sydney, Australia over Harbor Bridge and Opera House. As you can see it is truly spectacular.
But this year, I have shifted my goal post and changed the destination to Downtown Dubai and now want to see the Burj Khalifa fireworks (the tallest building in the world) standing around 828 meters high. As I write the name I can see auto correct on Microsoft underlining it to indicate a spelling mistake. Quick suggestion to Bill Gates and Co. don’t you think it’s about time you recognized the Arab Money achievements? Just saying!
And indeed it is worth the recognition as Dubai New Year’s Eve Gala surpassed global New Year’s Eve celebrations with a record 1.7 million visitor turnout, as per official estimates. The event was also telecast via live satellite feed to over 1,000 global television channels, and live streamed to reach over 2 billion people. A sneak peak is what the headlining images above show.
So as I end this blog post, I will sum it up by saying it is time to change those goal posts in all aspects of your life and embrace new ways and new practices. Out with the old and in with the new, at least that way when that time of reminiscing about 2014 comes as we go into 2015 you will have different tales to recap and not the same old, same old.

  1. Couldn't agree more. But girl continue dreaming but also remember to wake up to the reality. Am I not simply saying that I wish I could visit Dubai with you? now who is dreaming and who need to wake up?
